This makes sense......
"On a lot of levels it's strictly a business move. Lesnar v Couture is worth far more money than Couture v Fedor."
- Paul Heyman UK's Sun Sports Columnist article here
I think this has the potential to be the biggest fight in MMA history, but Fedor still looms big in the minds of MMA fans in the USA. I think before the Affliction show, most of America really had not bought into Fedor, but after he dismantled Tim Sylvia in less than a minute, people in the USA began to realize the guy was legit. Fedor is very soft spoken and probably is not equipped to hype a fight very well, but his legendary ring performances would probably be enough to push Fedor vs. Couture over the top. Lesnar has the Wrestling Community behind him and I am sure he brought a whole new legion of fans when he came to the UFC, but his cage skills still need sharpening. I think if this fight happened a year from now, it would probably be better, but considering the UFC is paying Lesnar #1 contender money he needs to do this fight now.

I still think it is funny that people find Ken Shamrock to be a legit MMA fighter, but Luke Thomas makes a "case for Kimbo" here Did you people not see Ken take a dive against Robert Berry at Cage Rage 25? Please see the video above and if you still think Ken actually can fight I'd like some of that sweet sweet cheeve you are smoking. FYI current odds Kimbo(-500) and Ken (+300) Regardless, this fight needs to be a ratings boom for Elite XC

War Machine Speaks via BloodyElbow.com
Evan Tanner and the faggot ass UFC..
So the UFC decided to let me go because of my statements after the death of Evan Tanner. They tried to make it look like I was insensitive towards Evan and that that was the reason I was being cut.
In all honesty my bulletin regarding Evan was bashing the UFC and the way they treat fighters and not negative to Evan in any way. if anything I was sticking up for Evan and the way he was mistreated by the UFC just like the vast majority of it fighters.
Anyway, since my bulletins and all the bullshit being talked about on the underground several of Evan Tanner's close friends and family members have been in contact with me. 99 percent of them were not mad at all and pretty much let me know that they knew where I was going with the whole bulletin and for me not to worry about hurting any of them directly.
SO yeah one of his close friends just messaged me a few hours ago and let me know that the UFC sent NO ONE to speak at his funeral. He let me know how much this saddened the family and how very disappointed they were about it all.
This is an EX CHAMPION of theirs, NOT some scrub that fought for them once and thats it. Are you trying to tell me he doesn't deserve any of the UFC brass' presence at his funeral? Doesn't deserve a single kind word or statement of gratitude for the services that he provided their organization?
Fucking bullshit if you ask me. This also brings me back to the whole reason I was let go by them. It obviously wasn't because they thought I was offensive to the Tanners it was as I ALWAYS knew...it was because I spoke my mind about the organization and the way the treat their fighters.
Actions speak louder than words and they can say what they want about why they were not present but to me it sure looks like they didn't give two shits about the guy.
Fucking sad.
WM
Send fucking flowers to Tanner's funeral service. Nothing more to say."

Today's News
The fact that Josh Barnett isn't fighting Arlovski on the Oct. 4th card made the rounds last night and accusations that Barnett declined the fight persisted until he stated on his website that he was never offered the fight. Why not? Probably because Elite XC doesn't want Kimbo to be overshadowed and undoubtedly a Barnett vs. Arlovksi match up would have produced a better fight for fans than Carano or Kimbo, Elite XC's two biggest assets. I know, why would they deny fans the best fight? Pretty simple, Elite XC is run by boxing promoters, which is why Kimbo is facing a guy who was put out to pasture about five years ago. Are they saving that match up for a Showtime PPV with Affliction? I couldn't tell you, but the partnership would seem logical because they each have something to bring to the table. Affliction has some top quality guys and Donald Trumps money while Elite XC has a roster full of fighters at all weight classes and a partnership with Showtime/CBS. The only question is, what will the new organization be called? On that note I give you these thoughts from MMAJunkie.

Good Take
- Zach Arnold FightOpinion.com post is here
While I didn't spend to much time discussing the fights, the exception being the Cro Cop match, I think people have a desire to know what is going on in Japanese MMA, because PRIDE threw some awesome shows and a few solid stars have stuck around to fight in WVR and DREAM. Secondly, they can do a lot of things in Japanese MMA that they can't do in the U.S. i.e. hold tournaments as well as utilize foot stomps and soccer kicks. Third, I think the Japanese ref their fights well, forcing the action, unlike in the U.S. where fights get dull from time to time if the fighters aren't very good. Plus, the ring provides better viewing for both the audience in house and at home. Will Japan ever have a PRIDE type organization again? No, the viewing audience doesn't have the appetite to support it, as the poor ratings show. I think the fad has worn itself out. Pro Wrestling, K1 etc seem to be much more entrenched as far as support from Japanese fight fans. Plus, I think the biggest stars in the sport have gravitated back to the U.S. and it is probably a lot harder to sell a Cro Cop fight when you know, as a Japanese fan, that he left the UFC because he felt he needed to get better.

Evan Tanner's Last Blog Entry (Never Published)
“It’s Tuesday night. Tomorrow I go out into the desert. It has taken over a month to get all the gear together. The preparation for this adventure took far longer than I had expected. I’ve never done this before, so I took my time reading books, studying the land, and researching gear. A few weeks of solitude in the deep desert, and then back to civilization, and back to training.”
Spike uncovered this draft that Tanner never published. RIP Evan Tanner.

Early News
First things first, if you haven't check out the Cro Cop fight on youtube. The above clip is from the end of the fight and find Overeem's comments fairly hilarious since the bout was ruled a no contest. It is pretty clear that Overeem kneed him once in the nuts, Cro Cop protested, but the ref missed it and then he does it a second time at which time the fight is stopped. The fight is then restarted and Overeem commits the foul a third time which ultimately results in the no contest. Was Overeem winning the fight? At the time he had established dominant position on the ground twice and inflicted damage, but as soon as he went into the clinch with Cro Cop he landed the illegal knees, so it is difficult to determine how the fight might have ended. Certainly a rematch seems in order if DREAM is around long enough to hold one.

Weekend Edition: Six Pack of Questions
Luke: Unless he develops a ground game over night, the days of one dimensional fighters ended years ago. My feeling on Houston is that the UFC brought him in to prop up Jardine and he KO'd the guy so he had to get another short and when he blasted Alessio Sakara, he became a nice sideshow. Unfortunately, after three straight losses it is pretty apparent that he can't fight off his back and he hasn't done anything to show improvement in that respect. Secondly, he lost to a guy who probably doesn't deserve to be in the UFC either, because Eric Schafer is just as one dimensional only he can't fight standing up. Houston we enjoyed the KO's but your time on the big show is over.
Butch: Alexander's ground defense and BJJ is terrible. He needs to get a notable BJJ coach and hit the gym. He was clearly uncomfortable on the ground during the fight and Schafer easily mounted him before finishing him. I think the best thing for his career would be for the UFC to drop him and have him fight in some smaller shows. That way he can improve his ground game and become more well rounded. Highlight reel knockouts will get you fans, but being one dimensional will lead to many loses. Everyone knows Alexander's game plan and his greatest weakness.
Was the Nate Diaz fight as close as the Judges called it?
Luke: I was shocked that Neer actually took one judge for 29-28. I don't know what fight he was watching, but Diaz could do pretty much anything he wanted and went for a number of submissions. Was it a pretty fight? No, but I am pretty sure it was one that should have been scored 29-28 all around.
Butch: I have to agree with Luke on this one completely. I thought Neer had no business winning a round. Diaz showed that his BJJ is top quality even though he is a brown belt. I thought the fight would be a unanimous decision and think Neer agrees with me from his reaction when the score cards were announced.
TUF 9 "USA vs. England" good idea or bad idea?
Luke: It definitely has some potential, but I probably would have gone with a USA versus Japan or Brazil. I understand that are really trying to dominate the UK market, but I am not sure how good the fighters are going to be and you never want the show to be too lopsided. However, I reserve my judgment for later.
Butch:Dana White needs more fighters from the UK to expand their impact and make that market profitable. This is a great way to acquire new talent on the cheap and their hope is to find some characters in the process.
What would you change about the current TUF format?
Luke: I like that the fighters have to fight their way on, because the fights tend to be much more exiting. I wish that they could take the match up decisions out of the coaches hands and give Joe Silva a say in the matter, because I think it would make for better matches at the end of the show. Also, I like the tournament format better and I think if guys didn't know when they were fighting it would cut out the idiocy in the house, which I think takes away from the quality of the show at this point. Educate the audience on the MMA lifestyle and entertain with good fights, leave the drunks at home.
Butch: I think bringing back Willa Ford is great idea. I see enough of Dana White's mug and would like some eye candy. Another idea that I know Luke will disagree with is bringing back some challenges. I think the challenges add another element to fill the gap of the drinking shenanigans they are trying to eradicate from the show.
Brock Lesnar vs. The Natural and Big Nog vs. Mir, who you picking?
Luke: Brock is definitely a powerful dude, but a focused Couture is sure to beat is inexperience. Mir is a strong fighter, but if the division wasn't so weak I doubt he would be a coach this season. I see Couture vs. Big Nog for the title, winner gets Fedor.
Butch: This isn't as easy of a decision as one might think. Who knows what Randy will look like after a year of not fighting? Where is his head at and will he overlook Brock? I think Randy has always performed well as an underdog and many will predict Brock will overwhelm Randy. I however, think Randy will submit Brock and show his inexperience in the ring. In the other fight, Nog has the best BJJ in the heavyweight division and will be able to neutralize Mir's skills. I think Nog's size advantage will take him to victory.
Is Chuck Liddell done?
Luke: Physically he is there, but I really question his mental focus and attitude. His game plan and execution over his last four fights has been poor. If he shows up and executes a solid game plan like he did versus Wanderlei, he can beat anyone, so no I think he can still fight.
Butch: Chuck is at an interesting point in his career. He has had a couple of devastating knockouts and is looking more and more like a one dimensional fighter. Chuck needs to focus on utilizing his wrestling and kickboxing skills that he featured early in his career. He has lost focus recently by looking for highlight reel knockouts that the fans expect. I think Chuck has a couple of more fights in him, but a loss in his next fight will surely mean retirement. He needs to put together a string of a couple of victories to become relevant again.
KJ Noons riding off......
- KJ Noons
Looks like Noons is looking for pay elsewhere at the moment, rest of the interview is here
File this under OMG
This stuff really pisses me off. Granted this is clearly a move to hype a fight that realistically probably wouldn't be happening if Chuck had executed a better game plan, but just because the fight is going to happen doesn't mean that we should be subject to this garbage. Rashad landed one punch and was inches away from being crushed himself. If he thinks that he can run and trick himself into a KO of Forrest he'll end up getting punked out just like his brother on episode one of TUF. Forrest submitted Shogun and beat the piss out of Rampage, if anyone should be afraid in this fight it should be Rashad because Forrest has outclassed two top five fighters at 205 lb in his last two fights.....other than beat Chuck Liddell, who is on the downside of his career by the way, what signature win does Rashad have and don't tell me Tito?

Tito to the AFL?
MMARated.com is reporting that Tito Ortiz may be signing with the AFL. This seems to make a lot of sense because the organization needs a big star for their first PPV and will be willing to overpay Tito until they file for bankruptcy.
UFN 15 Staff Picks
Lightweight bout: Nate Diaz (-220) vs. Josh Neer (+170)
Butch: Diaz, the winner of season 5 of the ultimate fighter, takes on Iowa's Josh "The Dentist" Neer. Diaz is a perfect 4-0 in the UFC and Neer is sporting a record of 3-3. Neer will look to utilize his improved striking and inflict a nasty group and pound attack. Neer will have to be careful because Diaz is a submission expert and Neer has been tapped by Drew Fickett, Nick Thompson and, most recently, by Nate's brother Nick Diaz. This will be the toughest test for Diaz and expect him to submit Neer in the 2nd round.
Luke: Nate Diaz via submission
Lightweight bout: Mac Danzig (+135) vs. Clay Guida (-165)
Butch: TUF season 6 winner Danzig takes on vetern lightweight Guida. This fight will be Danzig's toughest yet and Guida is coming off a 2-3 record in his past five bouts. Guida appears to be a one dimensional-wrestler with incredible speed and toughness. Danzig on the other hand is considered a well rounded fighter that combines striking and BJJ. Guida's biggest weakness is the abiltiy to finish fights i.e. Roger Huerta. I think Danzig will weather the storm and submit Guida in the 3rd round.
Luke: Guida via split decision
Middleweight bout: Ed Herman (-265) vs. Alan Belcher (+205)
Butch:I expect Herman to push this fight early and look to overwhlem Belcher utilizing the stragey that to a first round knockout at the hands of Jason Day at UFC 83. Belcher will look to take this fight to the ground and attempt submissions. Herman's wrestler skills are superior and I expect they will neutralize Belcher's submissions. This fight will end in a unanimous decision for Herman.
Luke: Herman via KO
Light Heavyweight bout: Houston Alexander (-285) vs. Eric Schafer (+225)
Butch: Schafer has a distinct advantage on the ground and if Alexander is on his back for an extended period of time, this could be a quick fight. Alexander throws heavy hands and will look for a highlight reel knockout to rebound from his recent embarassments. Schafer has lost his past two bouts due to TKOs (against Michael Bisping and Stephan Bonnar) and I expect the trend to continue to Alexander ending the fight in the first round.
Luke: Alexander KO
Preliminary Card
Middleweight bout: Alessio Sakara vs. Joe Vedepo
Butch: Sakara unanimous decision
Luke: Sakara KO
Middleweight bout: Wilson Gouveia vs. Ryan Jensen

Prehistoric Shamrock to "expose" Kimbo?
"And while the 15-year veteran presumably will hold an obvious edge on the ground, Shamrock said his game plan would include a few wrinkles."
More on Affliction
"The bottom line is that Affliction will only be around as long as Trump is willing to sink the money into it. Remember, the Fertitta’s bought the UFC $2 million then sunk in another $50 million before it turned around and that took four years. The UFC brand name is strong not only with fans, but with the corporate world as well. They have multiple streams of revenue to rely upon whereas Affliction and Elite XC need to prove their legitimacy every single show just to get the PPV and advertising dollars. Personally, I don’t see the production going much farther than a Fedor versus Couture match up, which will be a great event for the fans, but who do they fight afterwards?"
For the full post check here
Affliction cancels Vegas card
Kevin Iole for the Yahoo! sports blog is reporting that Affliction will cancel its show planned for October 11th in Las Vegas. Word on the street is the fight will be moved to Anaheim in January. This isn't surprising considering the first show did roughly 100k PPV buys and many tickets were sold for $40 or given away free on the day of the fight. Dana White has predicted that Affliction will be out of the fight business by January.
