War Machine Cut From The UFC...........

No one cares........details here

Really Did You Just Say That?

"This is the fight we've been looking at for a long time," Elite XC Vice President Jeremy Lappen said. "It's two of the biggest stars in the sport. The match-up is compelling, and it's a fight that a huge audience will want to see."

- Quote in reference to the upcoming Ken Shamrock - Kimbo Slice fight

Japanese MMA in Trouble

Just as rumors begin to swirl about the viability of DREAM and World Victory Road, there is an article from the BloodyElbow.com that says that fighters are not even getting paid for the fights they are in! If true, it sounds like the UFC may be picking the right time to enter the Japanese market. However, it seems to me that that it is possible the fad of Japanese MMA could have come and gone. Both of those organizations are full of Japanese stars, so it is hard for me to believe that if they are in fact filling the stadiums legitimately that they would not make money. The problem with MMA and even Boxing is that gate sales can be manipulated easily, so it is difficult to really gauge the real interest in the event.

Here is the Article

Machida wants to wait

“… we just don’t see the advantage of fighting a UFC newcomer. The (Thiago) fight made a lot of sense and it was the one we wanted…. We would like to wait for Thiago to heal up. They are both 13-0, so let’s see who gets to 14 first…. Nothing personal against Thiago. It’s going to be a bummer to have to stand across the Octagon from him, but sometimes you have to fight your friends…. I text messaged (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva right after the fight on Saturday night and said we would fight Rashad next. But these guys know what they are doing. (UFC president) Dana (White) was saying that if Chuck (Liddell) got by Rashad, he would get a title shot but then Rashad beat Chuck and in that fashion (so) maybe that is the fight to promote. We would like to get a shot. (But) it’s a business and they think that that fight makes more sense right now. We don’t feel slighted.”

- Lyoto Machida from MMARated.com

Thiago has some dynamite finishing skills and I was definitely looking forward to seeing this fight. However, waiting for a fighter to recuperate is always risky and if he really wants a title shot, it would be best for him to fight now.

Today's News

Fightline.com is reporting that Evan Tanner died of heat exhaustion and that his bike did not run out of gas. It appears that Tanner may have run out of water and succumbed to the 110 degrees temperature in the desert

The Crow, David Loiseu, may be headed back to the UFC if he can pick up a victory this weekend at XMMA 5. After losing to Rich Franklin and Mike Swick, Loiseau lost his spot in the UFC, and suffered an additional defeat to Joey Villasenor of Elite XC, but has rebounded with two straight wins.

Randy Couture is using his return to bolster the rights of fighters and gain more medical coverage to insure the safety of fighters.

‘MMA Live’ episode 18 video

Uh Oh Juanito!

MMA Weekly is reporting the Cheick Kongo has left Ibarra and moved to the Wolfslair to be with former training mates Mike Bisping and Rampage Jackson. Article is here Interesting quote from Wolfslair manager Anthony McGann, see below, perhaps the rumors of financial issues with Ibarra are true.

"(Quinton’s) old management weren't on great terms with the UFC, but we are very UFC-friendly here and have a lot of time for (UFC president) Dana White so we stepped in,” McGann told Eurosport."

Dana: No T-Shirt boy, just because Randy is (bleeping) back in the UFC where he belongs doesn't mean he can where your (bleeping) shirts. But hey you want to go up to the suite for some (bleeping) hookers and (bleeping) blow? (bleeping) Rampage has been (bleeping) holed up there all day, better make sure the (bleeping) animal hasn't killed any of those (bleeping) bitches. Did you just touch my ass?

Rampage vs. Silva will be happening

"Sources have told us at MMACanada.net that Rampage Jackson will fight Wanderlei Silva at UFC 91 which is headlined by Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight Championship on November 15th in Las Vegas. This will mark the third fight between Jackson and Silva since last meeting twice in the PRIDE organization. Both fighters have changed their training around since leaving PRIDE and this will be one fight that has "FIGHT OF THE YEAR" written all over it. "

Today's News

Fedor skips New Years show will fight at Affliction II on Jan. 17th and Affliction may be moving under Golden Boy.....totally makes sense in order for the business to survive. Sure they lose some fan cred by backing out of the October show, but they would have embarrassed themselves had they let it go on as planned. Secondly, the decision to add a true fight promoter to the business makes a whole lot more sense then letting a guy who sells clothing run the business. Also there are rumors of HBO.............

Could the Golden Boy move mean a mixed promotion of Boxing and MMA on one card? I would buy it....

Prehistoric Shamrock to "expose" Kimbo?

Apparently Ken Shamrock really thinks he can beat Kimbo Slice and he went into detail on the Inside MMA show on HDNet, details here. Readers should note that the following pun was not intended in the article despite the fact that Ken's face looks a bit pug-like these days.

"And while the 15-year veteran presumably will hold an obvious edge on the ground, Shamrock said his game plan would include a few wrinkles."

More on Affliction

Just a reminder the boys at BBTB predicted Affliction would run into problems

"The bottom line is that Affliction will only be around as long as Trump is willing to sink the money into it. Remember, the Fertitta’s bought the UFC $2 million then sunk in another $50 million before it turned around and that took four years. The UFC brand name is strong not only with fans, but with the corporate world as well. They have multiple streams of revenue to rely upon whereas Affliction and Elite XC need to prove their legitimacy every single show just to get the PPV and advertising dollars. Personally, I don’t see the production going much farther than a Fedor versus Couture match up, which will be a great event for the fans, but who do they fight afterwards?"

Affliction cancels Vegas card

Kevin Iole for the Yahoo! sports blog is reporting that Affliction will cancel its show planned for October 11th in Las Vegas. Word on the street is the fight will be moved to Anaheim in January. This isn't surprising considering the first show did roughly 100k PPV buys and many tickets were sold for $40 or given away free on the day of the fight. Dana White has predicted that Affliction will be out of the fight business by January.

Forrest: "Take it easy Sugar unless you want me to caramelize you right here in front of Bog Boi."
Rashad: "Aaaah shit dawg.....you better start doing some work son because if you thought the dance I did to night was phat I am going straight pop block your ass."
Forrest: "Tell you what...I'll smash you with a liver kick in round one, get you in the clinch and proceed to do the MMA community a favor and insure that you don't try and party boy your way around the ring."
Rashad: "Word...Word.."
Forrest: "Then, when your breathing out of your mouth, I'll step back and show you what real blackness looks like with a straight right to the button."
Rashad: "Hold me back son! Hold me back son!
Dana White: "What the (bleep) are you clowns doing? Jesus (bleeping) Christ. Forrest you (bleeper). Rashad you (bleeper). What do you think I need another (bleeping) Rampage (bleeping) situation on my hands? Help yourselves to some hookers and blow."

Tito to sign by the end of the month

“Most likely I’m not going with the UFC, that’s about 99% sure that that’s not happening,” said Ortiz in an exclusive interview with MMAWeekly.com. “I’ve got to be thankful for Lorenzo (Fertitta), what he gave me to this point, but it’s too bad that they have a president the way he is, just hot headed the way he is, takes everything personal and I wash my hands clean."
